A Diagnostic Method for Fog Forecasting Using Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Model Outputs

An attempt has been made in the present study to forecast fog with adiagnostic method using outputs of global NWP model. The diagnosticmethod is based on combination thresholds meteorologicalvariables involved formation. are computed usingthe observations during fog. These applied output aglobal model for forecasting occurrence a commonphenomenon winter season over northern plains India. Thediagnostic used predict occurrences three stations innorth proposed able both andnon-occurrences at all stations. It found that 94% thefog events forecasted by diagnostic have beenactually observed selected performance inpredicting best Delhi highest accuracy (0.61) andprobability detection (0.60). signifies approachbased useful tool predicting fogover single location.
